Freshmen Service at ECAC

Sylvia Robinson, August 2013

Last week was a great week for volunteers at the ECAC! On Wednesday and Thursday August 21st and 22nd the American University Freshmen Service Experience sent nine incoming freshmen to ECAC who weeded, labeled envelopes, flyered a huge section of the neighborhood and repainted the large sign in the rear of the building.  On August 23rd, six freshmen from Howard University prepared a mailing and completed the sign in the rear of the building.  These students could have been doing anything with their time before classes started but chose to do service work.  When you're a staff of one, these days are a blessing!  Thank you for your service.

ECAC HAS GONE SOLAR!

Sylvia Robinson, August 2013

The ECAC is now the proud lessee of 46 solar panels installed on the 2nd floor roof in July.  The process began with an agreement with DC Sun to be included in a package with other non-profits and businesses that wanted to go solar and explore options.  As part of a bulk purchasing plan, they put the package out for bid and Solar Solutions was selected.  So far the installation has gone well, DCRA inspection passed and we are waiting for PEPCO to switch our meters for one that can run backwards.  The panels are tied to the 2nd and 3rd floor meters.  Stay tuned for reports on savings!
